Sokoto Residents Flee as Explosive Device Burst Into Flames Amid US Operation

Residents of Jabo village in Sokoto State’s Tambuwal Local Government Area panicked on Thursday night, Christmas Day, after hearing a huge explosion presumed to be triggered by an explosive device.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred unexpectedly, with a suspected explosive purportedly falling in the village.
Fortunately, no one was injured because the explosion apparently did not happen in a crowd.
According to a local resident who confirmed the story, the object fell suddenly, causing locals to get concerned after mistaking the sound for an attack.
“It happened suddenly in the night. The explosion caused fear, but thank God it did not land among people,” the source said.
Security authorities have subsequently been notified, and investigations are underway to identify the cause and nature of the explosion.
Authorities have yet to ascertain whether the object was an explosive device or how it made its way into the community.
Residents have been encouraged to remain calm and cooperative as authorities investigate the event.
Tambuwal Local Government Area has recently been relatively tranquil; thus, the incident has sparked anxiety among locals, who are pushing for more surveillance and security in rural settlements.
As at the time of filing his report, no official comment had been made by Nigerian security authorities, but there is widespread suspicion that the bomb is linked to US President Donald Trump’s statement about launching an attack on Northwest Nigeria to eliminate the terrorist group from the area.
Trump confirmed on Thursday that US forces conducted deadly strikes against Islamic State terrorists in Northwestern Nigeria and vowed more attacks if the militants keep killing Christians.
